Yiwen offers different forms of internships for PRC nationals and non-PRC nationals. All programs offer the intern the opportunity to work closely with some of China’s premier litigators and transactional lawyers. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to be part of one of China’s leading firms and to work on cutting edge projects in a wide range of practice areas.
Our policy is to hire only the best and brightest. We are looking for motivated, responsible, mature interns with the requisite skills to make a contribution.
Non-PRC nationals may apply for internships lasting from one month to three months. We prefer a background in law but prospective law students who want experience as a paralegal may also apply. Applicants must be native English speakers. Knowledge of Chinese language is highly desirable. Strong writing skills are a must.
Responsibilities depend on the ability of the applicant and may include proofreading and editing of English language documents, management of the firm’s English language website, research and drafting of newsletters, translation of documents, legal research and assisting attorneys as needed. Compensation is generally not available.
Non-PRC nationals may also apply for longer term internships, generally for a minimum of one year though in special cases we may consider a shorter period. The applicant must have a background in law – at least two years of US law school training or the equivalent. Applicants must also be native English speakers with fluent Chinese sufficient to translate documents from Chinese into English.
In addition to all of the responsibilities of short term interns, long term interns will be more heavily involved in translation work, legal research and other legal work commensurate with their abilities. Compensation is available on a case-by-case basis depending on the ability of the intern to do translations and other billable work.
PRC Nationals
PRC nationals should be 3rd or 4th year students or graduate students at top PRC law schools, with good analytic and writing skills. A strong command of English is desirable but not necessary. The minimum period of internship is six months. Responsibilities include doing legal research, preparing monthly newsletters, filing documents and working under the supervision of experienced attorneys on client matters. Applications are accepted at any time. There is no financial compensation.
