Stipend FAQs 2011
Q: Can I split my summer between a law firm or for-profit company and a public interest organization?
A: Yes, as long as you complete the requisite 320 hours of unpaid public interest legal work this summer. EJF does not inquire into how you spend your summer beyond our hours requirement.
Q: Are the employer commitment letters confidential (ie, need to be in sealed envelopes)?
A: No. The employer commitment letters are not confidential, so you just need to be sure your supervisor signs them.
Q: Do you fund unpaid internships for military employers who discriminate under Don't Ask, Don't Tell?
A: Yes. Particularly considering that DADT is still currently a valid federal law, EJF does not take policy positions on topics where both sides are arguably advocating for the public interest.
Q: Can I receive an extension on the application deadline?
A: No. For both fairness between applicants and logistics purposes, all applications must be submitted by April 2, 2010 at 5pm. We recommend, however, that you check with the CDO for a list of other summer stipend programs you may apply for.
